In 2016 we celebrated a milestone birthday in Paso Robles and immediately fell in love with the town. We quickly realized the charm and opportunity of this amazing town on the Central Coast, found what became The Olio, and shortly after moved to Paso Robles full-time. Cathy is a former member of one of the world's largest architecture firms and Kory has quickly assimilated into the world of wine working on the 3rd vintage of Dudley Vineyard and pursuing his Executive MBA in Wine Business from Sonoma State University.
Initially we hoped to find a new project, never thinking we would find a new adventure where we would full immerse ourselves. But Paso has that draw...and here we are. During our renovation our ever faithful and loyal, loving pup, Dudley, passed away with almost no warning. We were devastated. But The Olio offered the opportunity to create an everlasting tribute to him which is now Dudley Vineyard. And then just as shocking, one of our favorite friends found herself in a surprise fight against cancer as well. Our amazing friend entered her new normal with eyes opened wide but with the most positive spirit that's an inspiration to all. So we've named one of our flagship wines, Jaksaa, after her foundation and vowed to donate a portion of all wine proceeds to the Jaksaa Foundation (www.Jaksaa.org) as well. We hope you'll help support the effort as well.
We chose Paso Robles in part because of location (right in the middle of the Central Coast of California and halfway between LA and San Francisco) and because of the growing wine culture featuring 200+ wineries and vineyards, amazing views, fantastic restaurants, and genuine people.
El Paso de Robles, or "Pass of the Oaks", is a community of 30,000 nestled in the coastal mountain range of central California, where the values and riches of the past are interwoven with the future. Located close to mountains, beaches, and deserts, it is home to one of the United States’ greatest wine growing areas and a growing number of hot springs resorts. (From www.prcity.com)
The Paso Robles American Viticultural Appellation (AVA) is home to more than 200 wineries and 40,000 vineyard acres focusing on premium wine production. The distinct microclimates and diverse soils, combined with warm days and cool nights, make growing conditions ideal for producing more than 40 wine varietals from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, to Syrah, Viognier and Roussanne, to Zinfandel, the area’s heritage wine variety.
