In 2016 we celebrated a milestone birthday in Paso Robles and immediately fell in love with the town. With both of us loving wine and architecture, we wondered if maybe Paso was the place for us to combine the love of both...And so became The Olio at Dudley Vineyard! With Cathy being an architect and Kory an aspiring winemaker, we instantly knew Paso was the place for us! So we set out to make The Olio into a world class home for larger groups and transformed the vineyard into a premier Zinfandel focused vineyard...the grape that built Paso Robles. We've now bottled our 2017 vintage into Kaia Zinfandel and Jaksaa Reserve with the 2018 vintage bottling in January 2019.
We thought we found this property to start a new adventure and immerse ourselves in one of the most amazing wine country experiences in the world. But near the beginning of the renovation we learned The Olio’s true purpose as we suddenly lost our most faithful furry companion, Dudley to cancer and then learning a dear friend of ours suddenly thrust into her own battle two (she learned shortly after she beat Kory significantly on the run course of an Ironman race!). Dudley was instrumental from almost day 1 of our relationship and then learning our friend was dealing with her own unexpected battle, The Olio and Dudley Vineyard became a purpose-driven effort to support the fight against cancer. We've named our wines after both with a percentage of the proceeds supporting both research into both. We hope you'll support our efforts and visit ww.DudleyVineyard.com to purchase your own bottles!
So why "The Olio"? It's a long story but one of surrounding yourself with good people. Close friends of ours ran a marketing agency and offered to help us build this new venture. The Olio, they found, represented Paso's history and present of multiple cultures, diverse weather profiles and wine region. Olio means "a miscellaneous collection of things"...just like Paso Robles. And so became The Olio.
We chose Paso Robles in part because of location (right in the middle of the Central Coast of California and halfway between LA and San Francisco) and because of the growing wine culture featuring 200+ wineries and vineyards, amazing views, fantastic restaurants, and genuine people.
El Paso de Robles, or "Pass of the Oaks", is a community of 30,000 nestled in the coastal mountain range of central California, where the values and riches of the past are interwoven with the future. Located close to mountains, beaches, and deserts, it is home to one of the United States’ greatest wine growing areas and a growing number of hot springs resorts. (From www.prcity.com)
The Paso Robles American Viticultural Appellation (AVA) is home to more than 200 wineries and 40,000 vineyard acres focusing on premium wine production. The distinct microclimates and diverse soils, combined with warm days and cool nights, make growing conditions ideal for producing more than 40 wine varietals from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, to Syrah, Viognier and Roussanne, to Zinfandel, the area’s heritage wine variety.
